Geographical Distribution:
occur throughout the western Atlantic from Brazil to the United States and the Pacific Walks along the South American Lives in rocky areas, coral reefs or mangroves and can be found up to 50m depth being common to 30m. They are known to inhabit the same reef for many years.
Description:
measured 1.8 m on average but can reach 2.5 m and weigh up to 29kg. It feeds mainly at night on fish and crustaceans. Lifelong changes its color and is black in juveniles, yellowish to dark green in adults. The body is muscular with a dorsal fin that extends throughout the body and ends in a short caudal fin. It has sharp teeth that release toxins can attack without being provoked. Should be viewed cautiously by divers.
