Pearl Harbor: "The Day of Infamy"

Entry Complex History of Pearl Harbor. More veterans have reserved parking space in the parking lot.

The day was December 7, 1941. The Second World War ravaged Europe. Germany, Japan and Italy joined in search of new markets for goods produced by their industries. The United States of America not yet entered the conflict, but it was only a matter of time, or rather a short time. Days before a fleet of six aircraft carriers carrying 353 Japanese planes departed from their homeland with their target destination: the North American naval base at Pearl Harbor where it was anchored across the North American Pacific fleet, about 30 vessels of war.

Images of Battle

Japan had not declared war on the United States, the message would be given formal yet that morning, shortly after the beginning of sneak attacks. 353 Japanese planes departed ship aircraft carrier located 12 miles from the island of Oahu where he was based. The first bombs were dropped by the first wave of planes 7:55 am.

Museums, Memorials, Submarines and Warships
In the attack several ships were sunk, airfields were destroyed and aircraft bombed beyond the material losses about 1,900 sailors and soldiers lost their lives. It was the largest and most treacherous attack on American soil masterminded by a nation. An excellent war strategy that went into the story "The Day of Infamy."

Today Pearl Harbor and a naval base is one of the attractions of the Hawaiian island of Oahu and a place where war can still be seen, felt and heard to never be forgotten. Museums, memorials and war ships can and should be visited.

In the "Pearl Harbor Historic Sites" are true relics for aficionados of World War II and naval history. Among them we highlight the USS Arizona Memorial, the Museum of Pearl Harbor, the submarine USS Bowfin, Submarine Museum, the battleship USS Missouri and Pacific Aviation Museum.

1,177 men lost their lives and 900 remain inside the wreck
USS Arizona Memorial
The Warship USS Arizona is a Symbols of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Violent explosions devastated the ship and its crew. The hull of Arizona has hit bottom in the first 20 minutes of the attack carrying 1,177 lives. The old ship was completely destroyed and can not be recycled further 900 bodies are still inside the ship and thus considered a war grave. In 1957 the U.S. government, the Hawaiian government and private sector built the Arizona Memorial on the remains of the ship, and a place for remembering the lives lost that day. The names of the sailors are forever etched on the walls of the memorial and parts of the ship emerge at low tide just to remind us that despite the time the massacre actually happened. To reach it you must get a boat that transports every 15 minutes. Today the veterans who wish to rest in peace alongside colleagues who may have been his ashes deposited in the interior of the wreck .

The Museum of Pearl Harbor
When we got to visit the memorial museum at Pearl Harbor is needed. It is possible to understand better the hit and see artifacts removed from the ship. The remains of a Japanese aerial torpedo that blew up is really more an artifact interesting, as well as a scale model of the sinking of the USS Arizona Memorial and the bloodstained clothing worn by one quesocorreram the wounded.

USS Bowfin. The submarine's Revenge
USS Bowfin Submarine
USS Bowfin view of the tower
The submarine USS Bowfin SS287 or is also known as revenge because the submarine was sunk more Japanese shipping. The submarine is open for visitors and it is possible to visit most of it. The tour begins at the deck where we can go down to the forward torpedo room, followed by the magazine of the officers, control room, communications room, accommodations, crew room, machines, electrical control room, ending with aa torpedo room aft. And imagine the amazing life aboard vessels like this, see the details and imagine the anguish of waiting. The flight crews of submarines, whatever was the cause for her courage are true heroes.

These Styrofoam cups were equal and that the left was taken at 1300m depth
The Museum of Submarine
an attraction for divers is the place. Dozens of artifacts remind us of the evolution of these vessels. One item is the exposed propeller of the first captured Japanese submarine, stranded on an island of Oahu, as well as the first statement made prisoner by the Americans in the War of the submarine crew. Another interesting artifact is a styrofoam cup deformed due to pressure after being taken to 1300m depth.

USS Missouri, where he signed the Japanese surrendered çao
USS Missouri
Beside the Arizona memorial is anchored to the warship USS Missouri who also was in Pearl Harbor on the day of the attack. However because of its importance, was on her deck that was signed the Japanese surrender in September 1945, at the exact location is a landmark commemorating the end of the war. The ship is no longer in service and is open to visitation, it is possible to visit most of its installations, its interior control room, etc.. On her deck are its huge guns, machineguns 270m in length and 60 meters high.

Pecém Steamer - Anniversary of Sinking

Thumbnail of U-507 German submarine responsible for sinking the ship Pecém.

Last January 03 was extremely important in the sea of \u200b\u200bCeara. Sixty-eight years ago at around 18 hours was torpedoed one of the largest and most important shipwrecks Ceará's recent history, the English Baron Dechmont freighter, or better known by divers as the ship that was sunk by Pecém German submarine U-507 in 1943.

Seven crew lost their lives in the moment of attack. Captain Donald MacCallum was taken prisoner and taken by the Germans. MacCallum died ten days later when the submarine was sunk by American planes.

Diving Magazine in December came a report about it, and in the next edition of the magazine will come out DecoStop another matter with new information and pictures of the crew of Captain MacCallum and his descendants! Reserve them now! mardoceara@gmail.com !

Mysore Mallige View Online

A new "journalistic genre," the

By Paco Arnau
Future City

In its online edition of December 30, 2010, El Pais, which is part of the shrinking cluster Media Group PRISA-English multinational has surprised us with a headline and an article that expresses the square of a circle is closing ever more as it increases the prestige of the mass media subjects of economic power. What we usually see posted in the media in regard to the process of building socialism in Latin America (propaganda of Big Brother in Washington, manipulated news, half-truths and whole lies) now must add a new "genre of journalism" mindless manipulation.

El Pais, a newspaper obviously very right totem although some liberals residual in the orbit of the PSOE, offers us the following story: "The indigenous leader becomes liberal", referring to Evo Morales and his policy of hydrocarbons in Bolivia. As much as we read and reread the article, signed by one Jorge Marirrodriga (sic) - do not find neither feet nor head. The headline is "police court" called "liberal" Evo Morales to do exactly the opposite of what they intend to do or do liberals and neoliberals like Rajoy and Zapatero, respectively, in both cases.

economic measures Morales' leftist government are based on nationalization and the domain public's main source of national wealth: hydrocarbons, which were privatized in the era of dictator Hugo Banzer partisan and so far have been in the hands of foreign multinationals as the English Repsol-YPF. Not to mention the truly progressive reforms undertaken in Bolivia's social legislation designed to encourage workers and most of the Andean country's citizens, as the recent lowering of retirement age to 58 years (note the data in Booty's Spain and Zapatero). Must be currently so discredited the term "liberal" to the champions of liberalism as PRISA-El Pais holders begin to use as a weapon. As for the article, is typical in these cases, that is, anything you're not already accustomed: lies, manipulation, half truths, blatant contradictions, etc. Castiza abstracted are more than an anteater nose.

only add one more thing: Evo Morales is the constitutional president of Bolivia, of all Bolivians, not an "indigenous leader," as says the owner of El Pais, or Sitting Bull or Yellow Hand. Neocolonial racism also uninhibited in a headline as concise. I would never forgive the President of Bolivia its strategic alliance with Cuba and Venezuela, those "communist dictatorships" according to El Pais and most English media about virtually taken over by the right, looking either liberal or the most ancient in its various versions but not distant. Certainly not lack anything to this "news" of the country signed by such Marirrodriga.

Ps-Who wants to read this example of journalism manipulative but clearly clueless on this link it has [I noticed that may offend the sensibilities of people reported]: "The indigenous leader becomes liberal" (the País.com, 30/12/2010)
