The day was December 7, 1941. The Second World War ravaged Europe. Germany, Japan and Italy joined in search of new markets for goods produced by their industries. The United States of America not yet entered the conflict, but it was only a matter of time, or rather a short time. Days before a fleet of six aircraft carriers carrying 353 Japanese planes departed from their homeland with their target destination: the North American naval base at Pearl Harbor where it was anchored across the North American Pacific fleet, about 30 vessels of war.

Japan had not declared war on the United States, the message would be given formal yet that morning, shortly after the beginning of sneak attacks. 353 Japanese planes departed ship aircraft carrier located 12 miles from the island of Oahu where he was based. The first bombs were dropped by the first wave of planes 7:55 am.

Museums, Memorials, Submarines and Warships

In the attack several ships were sunk, airfields were destroyed and aircraft bombed beyond the material losses about 1,900 sailors and soldiers lost their lives. It was the largest and most treacherous attack on American soil masterminded by a nation. An excellent war strategy that went into the story "The Day of Infamy."
Today Pearl Harbor and a naval base is one of the attractions of the Hawaiian island of Oahu and a place where war can still be seen, felt and heard to never be forgotten. Museums, memorials and war ships can and should be visited.
In the "Pearl Harbor Historic Sites" are true relics for aficionados of World War II and naval history. Among them we highlight the USS Arizona Memorial, the Museum of Pearl Harbor, the submarine USS Bowfin, Submarine Museum, the battleship USS Missouri and Pacific Aviation Museum.

USS Arizona Memorial
The Warship USS Arizona is a Symbols of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Violent explosions devastated the ship and its crew. The hull of Arizona has hit bottom in the first 20 minutes of the attack carrying 1,177 lives. The old ship was completely destroyed and can not be recycled further 900 bodies are still inside the ship and thus considered a war grave. In 1957 the U.S. government, the Hawaiian government and private sector built the Arizona Memorial on the remains of the ship, and a place for remembering the lives lost that day. The names of the sailors are forever etched on the walls of the memorial and parts of the ship emerge at low tide just to remind us that despite the time the massacre actually happened. To reach it you must get a boat that transports every 15 minutes. Today the veterans who wish to rest in peace alongside colleagues who may have been his ashes deposited in the interior of the wreck .
The Museum of Pearl Harbor
When we got to visit the memorial museum at Pearl Harbor is needed. It is possible to understand better the hit and see artifacts removed from the ship. The submarine USS Bowfin SS287 or is also known as revenge because the submarine was sunk more Japanese shipping. The submarine is open for visitors and it is possible to visit most of it. The Museum of Submarine
an attraction for divers is the place. Dozens of artifacts remind us of the evolution of these vessels. One item is the exposed propeller of the first captured Japanese submarine, stranded on an island of Oahu, as well as the first statement made prisoner by the Americans in the War of the submarine crew. Another interesting artifact is a styrofoam cup deformed due to pressure after being taken to 1300m depth.

USS Missouri
Beside the Arizona memorial is anchored to the warship USS Missouri who also was in Pearl Harbor on the day of the attack. However because of its importance, was on her deck that was signed the Japanese surrender in September 1945, at the exact location is a landmark commemorating the end of the war. The ship is no longer in service and is open to visitation, it is possible to visit most of its installations, its interior control room, etc.. On her deck are its huge guns, machineguns 270m in length and 60 meters high.

Pacific Aviation Museum
Several aircraft can be seen in the museum. There are dozens of airplanes, helicopters and artifacts related to aviation. The direction of the museum recently acquired new aircraft for display. It also found the rest of a Zero plane after the Japanese attack that made a forced landing on the island of Ni'hau. Your pilot escaped the landing and was greeted by the descendants of Japanese who lived there. After being discovered was killed after a hard fight by the Hawaiian who discovered them.
