The Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety, WHO issued a statement specifying that "since August 2010, following massive vaccination against influenza virus H1N1 in 2009, there were cases of narcolepsy in children and adolescents in at least 12 countries. "

However, the group said it takes "more research" to determine the exact relationship between cases narcolepsy and influenza vaccination, the vaccine is Pandemrix or other purposes.

Last week, WHO announced it was investigating a rise in cases of narcolepsy in Finland which could be associated with the vaccine "Pandemrix" manufacturer Glaxo, since all concerned seemed to have been immunized with the same product.

The Government of Finland had reported cases of narcolepsy among vaccinated against influenza between 4 and 19 years.

In Helsinki, the National Institute of Health and Welfare of Finland (THL) published a study showing that the H1N1 flu vaccine Pandemrix, manufactured by pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, multiplies the risk of childhood narcolepsy.

According to this study, between 2009 and 2010 were diagnosed 60 cases of narcolepsy in Finnish children and adolescents between 4 and 19 years, of which 52 (almost 90 per cent) had been vaccinated with Pandemrix.

The phenomenon led the Finnish health authorities to stop using this vaccine as a preventive measure to determine their possible side effects.

Narcolepsy is a disease state that occurs in the affected access irresistible sleep at any time.

WHO has donated 36 million doses of vaccine, "Pandemrix" to 18 developing countries, three Latin American but so far not been heard of who have been cases of narcolepsy.

The list of countries receiving "Pandemrix" is the following: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cuba, North Korea, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Namibia, Philippines, Tajikistan, Togo, Rwanda, Kenya , Mongolia and Senegal.

The completed final report on the relationship between narcolepsy and this vaccine will be broadcast on 31 August. ----------------------------------------

Wreck Identified and Located in Fortaleza: Rose barge wrecked in 1897 News in brief

Structures Wooden Rose. Note the tip of a brass stud in the center of the structure right.

An underwater hunter claimed to have located and identified the barge of German origin Rose wreck in 1897.

Greens rough seas of Ceará hidden beauties and mysteries. The coast called "east-west" was feared by mariners of the era of discovery. Its winds, its inhabitants and their submerged reefs had hostilities sufficient to avoid. Centuries later settled some of these dangers are still real for this stretch of coast and many ships that sank were remembered in a moment only to be almost completely forgotten. Only when we venture into the underwater world can have a real sense of what our hidden seas.

is the case of barge Rose. Wrecked more than a century, his record can still be seen in relation to sunken vessels of the Navy of Brazil. But what were only indicators of an earlier accident came to light to show that the story actually happened.

a barge According to the records of German origin named "Rose" sank in Recife Great in Fortaleza in 1897. No data on its precise location, cargo, crew or cause of the accident. Just a few words kept this fact in the history of Ceará. That was until March 2010.

Earlier this year a known sub hunter told us you have located a shipwreck. When diving on site we found a large anchor submerged about hum meters from the surface at low tide on the outskirts of Recife Grande. During the dive locate other anchor a few feet of chain with thick links, structures that appear to be the machinery to suspend the anchor, brass nails and nails scattered and encrusted in coral. The relief was also equally peculiar. The masses of coral had similar shapes that looked like barrels and extended over a large area. When shaving a bit of an inlay of these "barrels" come to a gray matter confirmed that it is not evidence of organic man-made structures.

There, the wreckage was located, but which one? A brief survey pointed to some possibilities but stopped there. The wreck was doomed to anonymity when months later I was informed that an object shaped like a bell had been found by a fisherman at the site of the wreckage. Earlier did not have many expectations because there's so much garbage in that area. But after a brief cleaning the object made by the fishermen knew that it was a bell with a name written in stylized letters: "Rose."

was identified more a part of a grand puzzle. More research and studies are underway and we expect it to further enrich the Naval History Cearense.
